Macintosh OS X: System 10.0 or later, 32 MB RAM, any processor which supports OS X, 2-4 MB hard drive space per program; Safari browser best. Installation HyperBook 3.0 is an HTML-based program, so it can be run on any computer with a compatible web browser. It was designed for use with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or highter on a Windows-based computer. It may not run properly or quickly on other types of browsers or computers. If you have received the program as a compressed download, you will need to decompress it, if your computer does not do that automatically. Free tools for decompression can be found at: www.stuffit.com. The program folder contains all of the files needed to run the program. The main startup file is the one labeled 'index.html' in the 'HB3 (author) Folder'. You can direct any other shortcuts, aliases, or hyperlinks of your own to that file in order to start the program. When you start up the program with your browser, you may see a message bar across the top of the window saying that 'Active Content' is being blocked, until you click on that bar and choose the 'Allow Blocked Content' option on the pop-up menu. Uninstall Process Since the program folder contains all files associated with the program, you can remove the entire program from your computer simply by deleting the full program folder (use Edit menu or drag to Trash/Bin), along with any shortcuts or aliases which you may have created in association with it. Networking & File Access Network installation is no different from the standard installation process. The program is self-contained within its folder (once decompressed, if necessary) and no auxiliary files need to be installed elsewhere. The program folders can copied into any desired non-public location (see 'License Restrictions'), with shortcuts or aliases created to direct users to the 'index.html' file. License Restrictions The program is licensed to either an individual (personal/student/download license) or a single institutional site (school/site license). Therefore, the program must be installed in a location that is not publicly accessible via the Internet. Demo The demo version has limited facilities, but it allows a sampling of the tools for support. The first passage of the module has its complete commentary and vocabulary gloss, and some of the paradigm chart references are available. Using the Program To start the program, either open (double-click) the 'index.html' file within the HB3 (author) folder, or start your browser first and tell it to open that file (from its File menu). Much like a conventional web site, most words in the program window are hyperlinked to related information. The Latin text passages will always appear in the box on the right half, while supporting information appears on the left. The paradigm charts are organized by part of speech and accessed via the drop-down menus in the upper box. The text passages are selected from the horizontal menu list in the lower box, as are the extra references at the end of that menu list. Clicking on a Latin word in the text passage box will call up its meaning and related commentary in the left box. Guarantee The publisher warrants the program and the disk on which it is distributed to the licensee for a period of one year. A description of any program defects should be sent along with a defective distribution disk to the publisher for replacement. Replacement master disks are available to licensees at a nominal cost, in the event of accidental damage or loss.
