Ancient Rome is an exciting, new program which offers the
opportunity to walk, and sometimes fly, through or around 12 of Rome’s most
impressive buildings. Each bulding represents a different section of the city
and a different period in time, so that the entire millenium of classical Roman
development is covered.
All of these buildings have been painstakingly reconstructed using 3-D virtual
reality programming, so that the user can pause and look around in any direction
(up down, right, left) to take in all the details from different angles. The
designs are based on up-to-date archaeological research and historical descriptions,
some of which are used to narrate the presentations. There is also a hypertext
description of each site and its neighborhood, with a striking bird’s eye view of
the area, based on the amazing scale model created by Italo Gismondi in 1937.
